Iowa Bioprocess Training Center

The Iowa Bioprocess Training Center (IBTC) is located in the Iowa Bioprocessing Center (IBC) in Eddyville, Iowa. The IBC consists of 1,600 acres where four international companies have clustered together, investing more than $1.5 billion dollars in plants engaging in value-added agriculture. A Cargill Corn Milling plant serves as the hub of this cluster where businesses cluster together to transform the by-products of corn into a variety of consumer products through high tech biotechnology processes.

The IBTC itself is a 13,000 sq. ft. facility designed specifically to serve bioprocessing industries through training, technical assistance and workforce development. It was built in 2002 via partnerships with both public and private entities such as:

Cargill, Inc. Iowa Department of Economic Development
Ajinomoto Food Ingredients, LLC Indian Hills Regional Development
Ajinomoto Heartland, LLC USDA Rural Development
Wacker Chemical Corp. The Economic Development Administration
Alliant Energy US Department of Commerce
MidAmerican Energy

Special features of the Iowa Bioprocess Training Center include a fully functional fermentation pilot plant/training laboratory, process control training laboratory, bioprocess training laboratory, ICN classroom, large or small meeting rooms, computer lab, and a 3-D virtual reality simulator for fermentation modeling.
